How to Assemble a PEARL Deep Well Submersible Pump | Step-by-Step Guide

PEARL deep well submersible pumps, also commonly known as pencil pumps, are designed for applications where water needs to be pumped from deep wells and delivered at the required flow and pressure.

They are widely used in residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial applications.

Before lowering the pump into the well, it is important to correctly assemble the pump end and the 4-inch submersible motor.

What Do You Need to Assemble a PEARL Pencil Pump?

Before starting, make sure you have:

  • PEARL deep well submersible pump
  • Compatible 4" submersible motor
  • Motor mounting bolts and nuts
  • Electrical motor cable
  • Cable guards
  • Proper installation tools
  • Suitable discharge pipe

PEARL pumps feature a NEMA motor-to-pump connection, allowing them to be coupled with compatible 4-inch submersible motors.

Step 1: Inspect the Pump and Motor

Before assembly, visually inspect both the pump and the motor.

Make sure that:

  • The pump shaft rotates properly.
  • The motor shaft and pump coupling are in good condition.
  • There are no visible dents or damage.
  • The motor cable is not damaged.
  • The mounting surfaces are clean.

This helps ensure proper alignment and prevents installation problems.

Step 2: Connect the Motor to the Pump

Position the PEARL pump directly over the 4-inch submersible motor.

Carefully align the motor shaft with the pump coupling.

Both components must be properly aligned before joining them together.

Do not force the connection. If the pump does not fit correctly onto the motor, check the shaft and coupling alignment before continuing.

Step 3: Install the Bolts and Nuts

Once the motor and pump are correctly coupled, install the bolts and nuts supplied with the motor.

Tighten all mounting points evenly until the pump and motor are securely joined.

The assembly should be:

  • Properly aligned
  • Firmly secured
  • Free from excessive movement
  • Correctly seated between the pump and motor

Proper fastening is essential for reliable operation inside the well.

Step 4: Route the Electrical Cable Along the Pump

After assembling the motor and pump, route the motor electrical cable along the outside of the pump body.

The cable should remain properly positioned so that it is not exposed to unnecessary friction or damage while the pump is being lowered into the well.

Step 5: Install the Cable Guards

Use the supplied cable guards to secure and protect the electrical cable along the pump.

Cable guards help protect the cable against:

  • Friction during installation
  • Movement inside the well
  • Contact with the well casing
  • Damage to the electrical insulation

Avoid overtightening the cable or leaving it excessively loose.

Step 6: Connect the Discharge Pipe

The upper section of the pump includes a threaded discharge connection.

This is where the discharge pipe is installed to carry water from the well to the required destination.

The discharge piping should be selected according to:

  • Pump discharge size
  • Required flow rate
  • Installation depth
  • Working pressure
  • Distance from the well to the discharge point

An undersized pipe can increase friction losses and reduce overall pump performance.

Step 7: Inspect the Complete Assembly Before Installation

Before lowering the pump into the well, perform a final inspection.

Make sure that:

  • The motor is securely attached to the pump.
  • All bolts and nuts are properly tightened.
  • The electrical cable is protected.
  • The discharge pipe is correctly connected.
  • Electrical splices are properly waterproofed.
  • The selected pump matches the well conditions.

Never operate a submersible pump dry. The pump must operate submerged and according to the recommended installation conditions.

Where Are PEARL Deep Well Pumps Used?

PEARL submersible pumps are designed primarily for pumping clean water in applications such as:

  • Floating impeller system designed to provide reliable performance and durability even in the presence of some sand
  • NEMA motor connection compatible with 4" submersible motors
  • Shaft, outer casing, motor bracket, discharge head, check valve, and motor coupling made of 304 stainless steel
  • Noryl impellers
  • Polycarbonate diffusers
  • Designed primarily for pumping clean water

How to Select the Right Deep Well Pump

Choosing a deep well pump should not be based only on horsepower.

To properly select the pump, you should consider:

Well depth + dynamic water level + discharge elevation + pipe distance + required flow rate + required pressure

These parameters help determine the correct pump model and number of stages for the installation.

An undersized pump may not provide the required flow or pressure, while an oversized pump may result in inefficient system operation.
